HA NOI — More than 1,000 delegates from 62 countries attended the 97th World Congress of Esperanto in Ha Noi yesterday.
The event was jointly organised by the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organisations, the Viet Nam Esperanto Association and the Universal Esperanto Association (UEA).
Addressing the opening ceremony, Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan said the event offered Viet Nam a chance to promote its image as a peace-loving country on the way towards development and integration.
Doan said Esperanto would continue to be an international language, linking global peoples for peace, development and co-operation.
UEA president Probal Dasgupta predicted that Esperanto, a language of goodwill and equality, would keep spreading to many countries and become a cultural bridge linking peace lovers across the globe.
Doan presented the Friendship Order to UEA for its contributions to Viet Nam's national liberation during the war. — VNS
